  We were picked up from our hotel early in the morning and driven for a few hours through an exotic Ecuadorian landscape full of banana plantations to the magical world... read more of the cloud forest, whose nature looks nothing at all like the nature of mainland Europe. Our guide explained to us the uses of local plants, spotted animal tracks and hiked with us up to the spectacular waterfall, in which we were allowed to take a natural shower while the guide took photos. On top of that, we extracted sugar cane juice together using an ancient device that was originally powered by horses and then tasted it in different variations, adding lime juice or sugar cane liquor to get the taste of the place and when the guide noticed our fascination with different types of bananas, he got out of the car and bought us several variations to try, teaching us which one is used for which dish. The adventure finished with a delicious lunch at a local restaurant/farm on the way home, where we had a chance to try out authentic and plentiful dishes surrounded by the locals and more banana plantations. Would definitely recommend this trip!
